  • How do I get started in physical therapy?

To begin physical therapy, consult your physician or, just call the office to schedule an evaluation. The evaluation is our opportunity to do a comprehensive assessment of the physical issue that is causing you problems and/ or discomfort. Your Physical Therapist will then build a comprehensive treatment plan to overcome this issue as quickly and safely as possible. A prescription or referral from your physician is usually necessary, so that your insurance carrier will cover your treatment.

Your Elite physical therapist will use a variety of tools and treatment techniques to change the physical impairments contributing to your pain. By addressing these problems, you should begin to see a decrease in your pain within a short period of time.

In order for you to gain the most benefit from your physical therapy, it is important that you do not miss your scheduled treatment sessions and take the time to perform the individualized exercise program at home regularly.

  • What do I wear?

Please wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing to your visits. If you have a hip, knee, ankle or foot problem, shorts will be helpful.

  • Will my doctor know what you are doing?

We stay in contact with your physician through written and verbal communication. A copy of your evaluation and treatment plan of care are sent to your physician with regular updates. When your treatment is completed, your physician will also be notified.

  • How is physical therapy different from chiropractic treatment?

While physical therapy and chiropractic care share several similarities (including spinal manipulation and modalities such as electrical stimulation) there are several important differences.

When receiving chiropractic care, the provider will perform techniques designed to address spinal subluxations, which are believed to inhibit nerve function as well as cause pain. These subluxations are treated, but will typically return once you return to your normal activities.

On the other hand, the physical therapists at Elite Physical Therapy will treat spinal mobility AND the underlying muscular problems with techniques similar to those used by a chiropractor while giving you tools (through individualized exercise) to independently manage your pain without the need for continued visits.
